A Little Fall Happy: Mini Pumpkin Bouquets for Friends
I’ve had an idea floating around for the last few weeks that I wanted to create small bouquets inside a pumpkin and deliver those with a small card and my friends’ favorite drinks as a little fall treat. I started by going to my favorite floral shop, Harold’s Wholesale Florist here in St. Louis. They have the best selection of flowers and I got to pick out each individual flower for this bouquet instead of getting stuck with whatever the local grocery store had.
I decided to go with yellow roses, yellow ranunculus, burgundy dahlias and daisies as the main base. I then chose a few stand out flowers such as burgundy ranunculus, Craspedia billy balls, hipster apricot, and Cockscomb Celosia in coral.
My next stop was to pick out pumpkins. I went to another local store, Orlando’s Fresh Produce and Seafood. They had an incredible amount of pumpkins, gourds, dried corn, hay stalks, and potted mums to choose from for all of your fall decorating. I went with a yellow and orange striped pumpkin, known as the Hooligan variety, a Wee-B-Little variety, and an unusual pumpkin known as the Mac and Cheese Pumpkin but unfortunately I did not get a picture of that one.
Once those items were secured, I headed home to start arranging. I had already purchased these cute pumpkin spice cards a few weeks prior at Target. I carved each pumpkin and scooped out the guts. I cut down floral foam to fit inside the pumpkins and ensured it was saturated to continue hydrating the flowers. Then I started with my roses as my base flower and then the yellow ranunculus. Each arrangement looked slightly different depending on the personality of the friend I was gifting it to. Some of my friends prefer more traditional, rounded arrangements and others prefer a more whimsical, natural arrangement. After each arrangement was done, I stuck it in the fridge to give the flowers a chance to open up a bit more. While they were in the fridge, I wrote each friend a note and placed my drink orders. It was a lovely day visiting my best friends and surprising them with a touch of fall.
